It's my understanding that meditation really helps. It seems to calm your mind so that there is more clarity. This is your first step in obtaining psychic abilities. The more you meditate, you will eventually notice your abilities, its like you will see where you are going in your life, it gives you insight.
You may want to do some research on what type of meditation to choose, as there are many different styles. Choose one that you feel most comfortable with.

For the First part... Look to What causes you emotion. Yeah 'm talking about the teddy-bear your parents got you. Your pet. Your Friends Your Enemies. lol well my phychic ability showed strongess when a lady on here was asking about a ghost in her house well actually it was an evil spirit but i would call it a ghost to quite scary actually but people also suggest holding things that blong to other people and trying to get a vision from them
