We can select a special table in MS Word in which we can see the cells in grey colour on our screen but those boxes are invisible after taking the printout. This is a very useful feature for typical formatting. But the problem is that I can't see the table in grey, instead it is seen in white and I am unable to see the cells and put the text in it. Could you tell me how can I turn the colour of cells of the table to grey so that I can easily see the boxes and put the text in the same?

It sounds like the border colours are turned to white. Right-click on the table and click on Borders and Shading, with the Borders tab to the front, click on the drop-down arrow at 'Color' and choose Automatic. If you want to see them on screen, but not print out, choose 'None' under setting, otherwise choose 'All' and click OK.

The gray is the background color; select it using the little "bucket" in the table format.
