I graduated summa *** laude In May 2006 with a bachelors in Political Science. Since then, I have worked decent jobs but nothing with career potential. With a not-so-desireable major(and not wanting to work in politics), I haven't had the best luck find a good job, despite the fact that I frequently receive compliments from my superiors, and take a lot of pride in the work I do. Here's my question, since I would like to get involved in business, is it a good idea to apply for a lower-level job(maybe not even requiring a college degree) with a large corporation, and then work my way up from within? I feel if I could just get my foot in the door, I would be fine. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know someone who does? Thanks.

Just be careful of who you give your word to.

You often can move up the ladder once you are in the corporation. Jobs are usually posted within the company first. You will know when people are leaving & can apply for positions.
Good thinking & remember to network - most jobs are filled through networking.

You might want to think CIA too - I have a few of friends with them & 2 of them had Political Science majors.Just a thought - it looks good on a resume later.

My roommate and best friend graduated with a political science degree. He's in sales now. He started out in copier sales and is 20 years later selling building products to contractors on home sites. He's making about $100K

Now for some advice. Start you own business. While you live at home with your parents, start you own business. Don't get a girlfriend that will suck off all you assets. Don't get engaged or a wife. Save your money and start a business. Start something that you can do from the back of an old van or a small office. You do NOT have to be original and you can ask people who are in the same business questions, they will give you free advice.
One of my other roommates who majored in psychology sells knick-knacks with logos on them. He is making big money selling to corporations and works out of his home. All you need is a place to start and that place is home.

It worked well for my daughter. She also had a poli.sci. major and she took a low level job with a large corporation. Now she is a VP.
