So my meter base has been switched, the drop from the weather head to the base has been changed as well but the box was never upgraded to 100 amp. A new panel and new wires to the meter base? How about cost?

Probably less than $200. When my friend had her house changed from 60 to 100 amp service 10 years ago, the WHOLE switch-over cost $250. That was new wiring from the pole to the house. New wire routing pipe to the meter, and from the meter to the inside panel. Removal of the old fuse panel and replacement by a trip switch system.

Are you having problems in the house? Many electric power suppliers update their incoming lines to the meter every so often. The fact that you have a 100 amp CAPABLE service does not mean you are using 100 amp. Your 60 amp panel is wired and equipped to protect you at 60 amps, if nothing has changed in the house you are fine. if you have added additional load have an electrician check your panel and load and follow the electricians recomendation. Cost about $500 to go from 60 to 100 amp panel.

First figure out what your amp draw will be. Most products have "watt" usage and if you multiply the watts times the volts (120 or 240) you will come up with Amps. Now you have an idea what kind of service you will need installed. If you have 60 amp service now you most likely only have 4 or 6 feeds to the house from the box so any breaker box will most likely fit the bill. Your main problem is the lines into your box will be live unless you can get your electric company to cut the power for a day. If that's not possible hire an electrician to do it.

Depends on a number of things, but I would expect anywhere from several hundred to a couple thousand depending on exactly how much work needs to be done. Just a new panel with breakers will run 100+. Wire can get expensive if a lot needs to be replaced.

Whatever you do, pull a permit. If your area allows homeowner to work on electric, just make sure you know what you are doing and how to keep things in code. There is a lot of little stuff the average person doesn't even think to do. If you are paying someone, expect anywhere from 45-65 an hour. Try to get a referral from somone you trust.

Unless you are living in a 3rd world country... I believe you would need to upgrade to a 200 Amp service. If the house is worth it then it would be a good payback not only in the sense of safety and usability but selling value too. Cost is difficult to determine but should cost less than $2,500 if it is simple. You would use a lot of your existing wiring within the house.

You need to go to a 200 amp cutler hammer braker and a new cutler hammer braker box.. going to run about $800.00 with out electrician.. not cheap .. 100 amps is not enough for most homes...
