There are millions of our fellow Americans who will go to bed tonight; hungry, cold and without their medication. It breaks my heart to think of one hungry, cold child, women or man in my country. It makes me sick that we can't even take care of our own. Does anyone know why our welfare system will refuse to help out the truly needy while there are some people on welfare who are just too lazy to get a job?

If it truly makes you sick, there's plenty of private charities that will be more than willing to take a check from you. Maybe if we stopped giving welfare to illegals, there's be more money for OUR OWN CITIZENS....

In many cases, the people in charge of doling out the benefits are just as lazy as those who receive them. It is easier to go along with the fraud, rather than investigate it. Not all people on welfare fall into that category though. Their are many people who use welfare for it's intended purpose, a hand up, not a hand out. Although, the income qualifications to get assistance have become so low, that a family of 4 making 90% of poverty level no longer qualify for any aid for the adult members of the family (not all states), which leads to difficult choices all around.

I've been trying to figure that out for the last 3 years myself. Good question. I was unemployed for 4 years and didn't have money for a roof over my head or food to eat. Yet, the state refused to help me because I had no children at home. All they gave me was medical for a D+ clinic which I stay away from.

Well, my ex is giving me a roof over my head, but before I managed to get this part time night cleaning job, I was forced to live off of his change. So, it was $1.00 TV dinners (3 a week), then I was able to get .69 cent pkg. of hot dogs, but could not afford buns. (No, he's giving me a roof till I can get a job that suits my skills (college grad speciality)....and he is not paying my way. This was all I could ask of him. We've been divorced for over 14 years. I have a long drawn out story, but I think it's pretty crappy of my state officials to help out people who are just coming in to this country, cannot speak English and do not work, when I had paid taxes for years and years and I can't even get a morsel of food from them.

So, I understand the hungry thing. Been there, done that. There are so many people who don't understand what it's like. The U.S. Citizens paid for my education with their tax dollars (I did get Pell Grants), and I've been unable to find good employment.

I would give anything to have my own little home, or my own apartment. You have no clue. I'm trying so desperately hard to get an interview, and I am 'very qualified' for many positions, but I haven't gotten that lucky. I'm 57, left my management position to take care of my mother till she died. I gave up everything to make her happy and she so deserved it. 3 years of college and 950 resumes later and I'm still not even close. Thank goodness the grant money paid for my computer, or I wouldn't have one. And I had to beg my ex to get me a connection so I could send out resumes. Oh, God, help me.
