I won't comment on if WoW is worth the cost however the best free mmorpg in my opinon is Maple Story. Competely free mmorpg with guilds, different classes and quests.

My answer goes to Sword of the new world (aka Granado Espada)
Granado Espada will be one of the best MMORPG in 2007, as Warhammer, Age of Conan as well :D
As the Winner of the 2006 Grand Award for Best Game in Korea, this game is fantastic. Although its beta test, but will release soon and u can obtain a CB key over their website or http://www.mmosite.com btw according some rumors it will be buy 2 play even free 2 play.

I don't suggest you buy it. It's the best out there and worth the cost but it will eat up your life. You gotta put aside alot of time every week to get up to a respectable level. If it gets banned, stolen, or deleted then you're gonna ask yourslf "why the hell did i play for so long..."

It all depends on how much money and time you have!
WOW is probably the best MMPORPG hands down But can you easily afford the monthly fee ? and do you really have enough time to waste to get your moneys worth?
If you answered no to either of these questions you have your answer!
