I'm a girl and I do not wear make-up every single day. Everyday, when I go to school, I see all sorts of girls wearing make-up (including my friends). I'm just wondering, why hide your faces? I understand that a lot of young girls wear it because they want to look cool and older. Also, I understand that adults think they look old or bad and want to look younger. I just want to know any other reasons.

if anybody is wearing enough makeup to "hide" under then it is too much, makeup is just supposed to enhance the beauty that you already have, and sometimes its just fun to express yourself with different colors and all that.

Make-up can be worn for a lot of different reasons. Older wanting to look younger and vice versa. Mostly, people wear make-up to make themselves feel better. Yeah, make-up can hide blemishes or what not too. When you do wear make-up, how do you feel? If it doesn't do anything for you when you look in the mirror after putting make-up on, then it isn't worth it to wear it. For most people though, it is a confidence boost and if something that takes 10 minutes can make you feel sooooo much better, then why not do it?

When i was at school i only ever wore make up on my eyes and lips i didnt have to bother with foundation etc but now im 23 so im not old but not really young!! I wear make up most days as i have blemishes on my face that when covered i feel more attractive and confident. I would rather not have to keep slapping the stuff on but i would rather put it on then have spots/blotches showing!

Its a no win situation if you need to wear make up all the time to hide your blemishes your making your skin worse coz you are clogging the pours of ya skin and therefore creating more!!!

Lucky you if you dont have to wear it!

There are some excellent reasons to use makeup, especially if one is creative and seeks to create a visual illusion that is not otherwise available

Makeup is subjective and artistic, and the results vary by the skill of the applicant. Using a makeup brush is like being a painter; it is possible to create angles, ridges and smooth translations of skin tone whereas previously there were none. This may be desirable for special events or holidays.

Artists can also use subtle colors to draw attention to certain parts of the face and body, and to create the illusion of larger eyes, sleeker cheekbones, and satiny lips . I suspect that much of the criticism of makeup is related to poor application. Makeup only begins to look clownish if one does not apply it with the sensitivity and sensibility of an artist.

Here are some brief notes on makeup application for mature women, to avoid the "clownish" look:

Frothy lip gloss and frosted eyeshadow are generally not successful; they can draw into the lines above the lips or the wrinkles along the eyes. Vouch for subtler, matte shades of eyeshadow or lipstick like browns, mauves, and subtle reds.

Avoid brands like MAC cosmetics; these run the gamut of more extreme, bright shades that are more suitable to younger women with experimental tastes.

Stick to brands like Estee Lauder, which provide some toned formulations of typical color and generally wear well on more mature women.

I wear make up mainly because I'm pale ... even my eyes are. I look really blah and I don't feel as good and energetic if I have no color. Even if it's just foundation and mascara I feel awake. Oh, and having make up on seems to wake me up and keep me from rubbing my (which isn't good for your eyes). I don't wear that much, very little foundation, eye liner some times, shadow and mascara ... It takes a whole five minutes! * Extra note: I don't wear it every day either, but there is nothing wrong with wearing it if you want to and do it properly. No clown make up ladies!

I think that people wear make-up for the 'placebo' sort of effect they get out of it. People think that by putting make-up on, they actually look better or prettier, but it's still the same person! Sure, sometimes makeup can hide some imperfections, but it might also contribute to them - like giving you zits because of blocked pores. So, I think it's a psychological thing more than anything else.

I work in a factory type atmosphere and the women there do not wear make-up most of the time. I'm used to seeing them in their real face. Some times they will come into work wearing make-up because they had to do something before coming into work. They look like clowns. If you wear make-up, minimize it. this will keep your skin in better condition also. Remember, men don't wear make-up and they don't have all the skin problems as adults that women have.

I agree! I have always thought that most girls wear make-up to impress other girls so they'll be "popular." Guys don't seem to care that much about it, and many even prefer girls without make-up. I'm an adult, and I don't wear much make-up at all anymore, and I think NOT wearing it makes me look younger. I think that washing one's face, moisturizing, and maybe a bit of mascera and lip gloss is fine, but anything else is just clownish.

I'm 22 and I wear make up every day.

Just like your clothes, you can show your personality/individuality through your make up.

If applied properly, make up can also add definition and enhance your features. (It can also help to hide stuff too!!!!)

I don't think that I would say that its wearing a mask or hiding your face - you are just expressing yourself and making the most of yourself all at the same time!

I think it's wonderful that you don't wear makeup!

I don't wear makeup every day either. I think of it as part of dressing up, so I put it on when I go out to clubs or that sort of thing.

I don't like seeing young girls wear a lot of makeup. It would be nice if more girls would think like you.
