It's obvious some of these folks don't really understand the question or the genre. Alot of the artists listed above are Death Metal, Gothenburg (Melodic) Death Metal, Symphonic, etc. Strapping Young Lad is not BM. Dark Tranquility and In Flames are Gothenburg style Melodic Death Metal. Cryptopsy is death metal, as are Dying Fetus and Gorguts. Mesuggah is...well, tech/math metal like Mudvayne used to be.
Black metal is often under-produced, and almost hard to listen to. It conveys moods and emotions, such as hate, despair, etc, with those production values. Vocals are often shrieked, but are sometimes roared, and sometimes are clean. Solos are rare. Black metal is often against organized religion, and about self empowerment, or about fantastical lands - did you know Gorgoroth took their name from Tolkien? Did you know that Immortal sings about a land called Blashyrk? Death metal is all about violence and death.

Without a doubt.
Yes - definitely.
As I see it, yes.
You may rely on it.
Outlook good.
It is certain.
It is decidedly so.
Reply hazy, try again.
Better not tell you now.
Ask again later.
Concentrate and ask again.
Cannot predict now.
My sources say no.
Very doubtful.
My reply is no.
Outlook not so good.
Don't count on it.
Ten of the possible answers are variations of "yes", five are ambiguous, and five are variations of "no".
