you can search "london b&b" means bed and breakfast, usually you will find some for around $60-80 USD, of course the closer to central London the more expensive they are. The best areas would be somewhere on the west side of London, west and south west, when you find some b&b that you find reasonable, you can check to see that is close to a subway station, this way you will save a lot of money in cabs. You can take a subway from the airport to any location in central London for about $12 dollars with the "day pass" this one is unlimited travel all day from 10 am I think till midnight. The subway is very easy to use. I will also recommend you to take a bug repellent and spray your bed and pillow before you go to sleep. I have been beaten by bed bugs (even in $130 USD hotels in London), but since I took my bug repellent it hasn't happened again. Bed bugs are little insects that grow from dawn feathers.
If you go to London, and you have two weeks you might also want to go to Paris, you can go for two or three days, it's only like $150 USD round trip with Eurostar (it departs from central London Victoria Station and arrives in Paris at the Gare du Nord) the traject is 3 hours I think.
Good luck!

Well, I hope you have a lot of money to spend because nothing (and I really mean nothing) is cheap there. Gas (or petrol if you prefer) will cost an arm and a leg, food isn't cheap and even hostels (yes they are cheaper than hotels) are still somewhat pricey. My best advice is to find some bed and breakfasts...those places are cheaper if not the same as a hostel except you get your own room and breakfast..and the courtesy of the homeowners who are usually more than willing to help you out with any questions and suggestions...now if any form of Bank Holiday is going on while you're there..it's best to reserve because they like to travel and all will be booked. Overall, if you do a B&B you should be able to work out a deal for a longer term stay and you will have breakfast and your own room. Meanwhile if you stay for 2 weeks at a hostel there is no guarantee that your stuff will be safe (unless you do get your own room-which happens to cost more) but you do meet other travellers..some shady some cool...I found that the only random thing that was actually cheap were canned peaches at the Tesco markets..bizarre..they were like 0.19 a can for some reason while I was there. They have online websites for b&B's that you can look up but honestly...the places I stayed I found by driving around and asking people...
