When i flush my toilet my well kicks on/off around four times, I watch the pressure gauge go up to set point(60*) and shut off,and then as the toilet is still calling for water, it drops down to set point(40*).so the gauge seems to drop quickly as soon as the well shuts off. is it that my old galvanized tank is water logged?

You are exactly right! There is no air buffer in the tank. To fix, turn off your pump and drain down the tank. You probably want it about 1/2 empty which you can gauge by tapping on the tank to tell where the water level is. It could take a while for it to drain. Then turn your pump back on and you are all set. This is very common but if the tank doesn't leak you don't necessarily need a new one.

Good Luck!

Yes, your pressure tank is water logged. It should have around 60 PSI. You'll, probably find it has around 15 or 20 psi.

Two choices
1. turn off water and then drain pressure tank. when it refills it should have the correct pressure. or
2. if it has a valve stem (like a car tire) you can increase pressure to 60. this will take an air compressor.

In systems like this, the air in the tank dissolves into the water and is slowly drawn out. Eventually there's only a small air space to act as a spring, so the pump has to cycle on and off frequently. That's what they call waterlogged.

You can sometimes pump air in (mine has a tire-type valve fitted) or you can drain the tank and let it refill once it's full of air.

sounds like your presure is water logged, your best bet is to replace it if its old like you said, just so it dosnt start leaking. But yea if you dont want to do that just turn off the power to the well, drain it, and start over.

Metal can not become water logged, sounds like your system is working fine, with the exception of low pressure...

the well is not deep enough and the pump has to labor to fill the storage tank .... get a pro to check your problem and you will not be wasting your $$'s and buying stuff that you do not need............
