Because it's what they are taught. It engulfs their everday lives and who could blame them. Media, and society tell us that we must behave a certain way so people strive to be there. The whole idolization of celebrity status and way of life doesn't help either. In the end they figure it out but only when it's too late.
Right now I am almost about to graduate college with a mechanical engineering degree. Even though I can have a good career, I would easily trade it if it meant sacrificing a happy life. I don't judge people who work with low paying jobs based on their career. I judge by how they percieve life. Nevertheless, most people don't think this way but don't stess about it. If you do you are just succombing to their way of thinking.
Family, friends, love, and relationships as well as doing good are what we should focus on. Being happy does not depend on money (well lots of it anyway). I was poor as a child but was so happy that I felt rich. It also helped me appreciate the little things more, which made my life even richer when I did get nice things.
Surround yourself with such people and you will be happy regardless of career status.

You're right. A job doesn't define who you are. But if you spend 1/2 your waking hours at a job, it's a good idea to get one that you really, really like. Not only that, a good paying job will help determine how many of the luxuries of life you'll get to enjoy with your loved ones.
In that sense, the quality of your life is greatly dependent on your career.
Have you ever had a job that you disliked so much that it made you sick everyday you went in plus you didn't make much money doing it? Ugh.

You are positively right; it is a great pity for them.
That is why we need to give great priority of education to the girls, in order that most of the young mothers can transfer the true meaning of life to their children in the next generation. Otherwise, no families, or schools, or governments can cause the general and radical change throughout the world.
Yes, priority of education to all girls first.

Many people get them confused because you need a job to buy the things that their happiness is attached to. Once they have that car, and that house, they want faster cars, and bigger houses. I try to advocate being happy where you are with what you've got. Being rich is a matter of being able to pay your bills.

I absolutely agree with you. But some people were raised to have money, and they think that's the way of life. I hate money...They say "Money doesn't buy happiness" but for some people, I think it does.
