This is an ongoing economic and social challenge generic to political leadership. Poverty is more a function of how poor or less than wealthy people envision them self. Industrial and Technical Economics demonstrates that a basic family farmer can sustain a family with access to land. Additional production can be exchanged for items not available on the farm. Wealth is determined by how excessive earnings extend beyond survival subsistance. The interaction of the family farmer and wealthy elite is minimal. Between the family farmer and Industrial and Technical wealth is a division of labor. People within the division of labor have a matrix of opportunities to facilitate their survival and subsistence. This however is different from the family farmer. Few within the Industrial and Technical economic matrix can produce a complete product independent of the family farmer or the wealthy elite. This exposure is the gap. In a representative government "We The People" have the opportunity to maintain survival subsistence balance of the division of labor in an Industrial and Technical economy. Neither Senator McCain nor Senator Obama can take blame or credit for the distance between wealth and poverty. Effective representative government requires participation of citizens. People must educate and politically strengthen them self to guarantee economic survival.

Neither poverty nor abundance is perpetual. Hard work makes poor rich and foolishness some times change rich into poor! The best way to bridge, this gap is to be magnanimous towards poor by the sustenance that we got from God. He is the real owner of all property. When poor people are, satisfied with what they have, in a way they will feel affluence than a rich. Actually, this type of comparison is psychological. Some people are rich financially and some others mentally. Financially rich people are always under bitter mental poverty in many mansions!

Good question. There are many things we can do to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. Here are some of them:
-Volunteer
-Donate to charity
-Vote Democrat
-Support or join an organization helping the poor
-Be socially conscious
-Don't be materialistic and selfish
-Write to your local legislators to do more for the poor
-Support public libraries
Also, keep educating yourself on the causes of poverty and possible solutions to this problem.

as citizen of india we can help in many ways to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. as a sincere citizen we should give tax and voluntarily surrender the surplus land i. e. help the govt. to properly implement the land reforms. the minimum wage may be increased. poverty alleviation programmes should be given as a top objective of the planning . every effort should be taken to reduce the prices of essential commodities.

Nothing, since different people have different traits and are productive in serving their fellow man to different degrees (some not at all), I expect there to be a big gap between rich and poor.

realize that the so called uneducated people like us are the ones that makes them rich.It is not like they would do the job.many of us are very smart self-educated people. The rich need to quit being so greedy and the poor need to quit being so jealous. To work hand in hand with each other.

question: are you the one of the rich or are one of the poor?
If you are one of the rich, then you personally give all your money to as many of the poor as you can.
If you are one of the poor, what right do you have to demand someone else's money?

First ensure that you have a plan for development of a region and its people that is apt and appropriate to the resources that you possess. This must be operable at the grassroots and must take cognisance of actual resources available and use them creatively.

Get a better education, work harder, take over-time. If you want to be rich you have to have the drive.
