It all depends on what she does, does she keep her room clean, have good grades, help around the house? If so it should be based not only on that but what you can afford. 3-5 dollars a week would be appropriate if all the above are good. If she doesn't do any of the previous let her know you expect a good example before you feel she deserves it. If you can't afford much, let her know that and give what you can if she really deserves it. Around 15 - 25 dollars a month is more than ample. Also consider teaching her how to save her money and possibly starting a savings account. If you don't feel she'll be responsible with her money start the account first and allow her to make one small withdrawal a month. Good Luck!

sure, a lot of kids have allowances. i would say maybe $10.00 a week would be good especially if she helps around the house. every kid deserves to have an allowance. however, this should not only be used just so she can have money for something but this should be a learning experience for her as well. what i mean by this is that she should be learning money management. if she wants something more expensive then she needs to learn how to save. not only this but how to spend wisely so she doesn't spend it all at once. allowance can be a great thing because it helps teach a child about how to manage their money which is an important life lesson but at the same time allows them to have fun too. hope this helps. good luck.

Well I am almost 14 and I never got allowance because my mom couldn't afford it but if you can then sure.
I'd only give it to her if she did stuff around the house such as setting the table and doing the dishes and sweeping the floor after meals, and dusting and picking up the house once a week or so....depending on how much she does around the house I'd say anywhere from $5-$10 dollars a week....but if she only does say the dishes once a week I'd only give her $2-$5...it all depend on whether she helps you or not.

An allowance at that age is a good start, but what is she doing to deserve it? She should show she is consistent in her chores...I used to put up a chart with the chores and the price list and as the chores were performed the child could see there money adding up...maybe you would consider that route instead of starting right off at a certain rate...See, if she is serious about working for that allowance...

I think she should have an allowance, but she should also have jobs to complete to earn that allowance. She needs to learn the value of money, and what it takes to earn that money, and how to save money. 12 is a pretty good time to start that.
How much would depend on what part of the country you are in, your community? Due to cost of living differences, a fair allowance in one place wouldn't even cover the basics in another place. You want her to have enough to do some of the things 12 year old girls want to do, but not enough to get into trouble with. And if she's a little "short", it might teach her to budget.

I never got an allowance when I was a child. but that is a good way to teach them some responsiblitity. In order to get an allowance have her do some chores around the house, and give her 5 or 10 a week. good luck.

this is a really good time to begin allowance. She should have to earn it by keeping her room clean and doing all her school work. Ask other parents how much they give. It's probably different in some parts of the country. She will learn how far money does and does not go.

An important aspect to the allowance is putting some of it into savings. At that age I got $4 a week for savings and $4 for spending.. Once my savings hit $100 I was allowed to withdraw it for a big purchase.. This way you dont get kids who spend all their money on stupid little crap at the stores. She also has to earn it.

For a basic 12 year old should get an allowance. 10 dollars a week. And see how she saves or what her habits with money should be. Then as she gets older she will know how to save and will be able to make wise decisions with her money.
