I understand that there is such a thing as an "archive". How do I find it and will it tell me where my kid has been when I wasn't looking? Please help. News on the TV regarding kids getting to sites which are harmful to them has me concerned. Any help?

More than just the history please. I want to find out if anyone has been contacting her or bothering her on this computer without my knowledge. That is to ask: how do I find whose has been linked through this device?

Do any of you use this keylogger thing? Is one brand better than another? Appreciate the help.

Edit: Check out System Surveillence Pro is a computer monitoring solution, that enables you to log keystrokes, programs used, websites visited (IE, Firefox, Netscape 8), instant messages sent and more. It can also capture screenshots of the desktop in regular intervals or based on a keyword trigger and send alerts to you via email. The program can also be used to block access to specific sites (based on keyword or URL) and comes with a built-in filer list of pornography keywords. For logging of instant messages, the program supports ICQ, MSN, AOL, AIM, and Yahoo messengers
***************************************************************
Every web browser has a History. And yes, it will tell you where and when your child was browsing.
You also would be best served to get some Parental Control software installed to prevent most unwanted content and websites from being displayed. I use and suggest System Surveillance Pro http://www.download.com/System-Surveillance-Pro/3000-2162_4-10625684.html , but there are others out there. Visit Computer/Net for more safe download options http://www.download.com/Parental-Filters/3150-2162_4-0.html?tag=dir
Of course, the best parental control is your personal diligence and making sure that the computer is in a centralized part of the house where you can monitor Internet activity, but you cannot be there 24/7. I have several PC's for my children in their rooms, but the only one that connects to the Internet is in our family room and widely available for me to monitor, when warranted.

It's called the History bar.
In Internet Explorer 7 (maybe 6 too):
Hit Ctrl + Shift + H at the same time.
OR
Goto View -> Explorer Bar -> History

Depends... I'm a kid and I am constantly clearing my archive which prevents anyone from checking on my history (do it for computer hacker safety)... If your kid ain't that computer smart then in internet explore just bring down the address bar. Or check cookies... Mozilla the history tab in the left corner...

There should be a "view history" option on the tool bar when you are online. Mine is a clock with a backwards arrow. You can set how far back you want that history to go by going to tools, then internet options. On the pop-up, you can set the history or clear it. If your kid keeps clearing it, then something is wrong.

History is the worst way to know anything unless you know the exact details of what she typed. This definitely would be called sneaking but I hope this makes her safe.
Install a keylogger. Search for this term on the web and you will get it. http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/downloads/Keyloggers.html
try this and install it. You and only you will know what is everyone typing on that computer. I hope this would help.

Why would you put your kids online!? Put them in a pile of dirt and let them think, explore, grow, learn, play, and live!! A child doesn't need the internet to learn anything, give them something they can do to help prepare them for later in life.

You might have the history button on your toolbar. It's the round dial looking thing with the arrow on it. If you don't have that button, then the other suggestions I read on here are worth a shot.
