The priest thinks that Rudy is there to become a priest. After he finds out that he is not, the priest pulls some strings to go to a smaller college to bring his grades up so that he can have a better chance to get into ND.

He thinks Rudy is interested in becoming a priest at first. Rudy explains his dream of playing football at Norte Dame and after being impressed by his passion, helps him get into a smaller college so he can get his grades up and then apply to Notre Dame.
