Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, and Alabama are not in the eastern portion of the U.S. Most of Ohio is not either (only its eastern portion).
Virginia can be placed in northeastern U.S. West Virginia can be placed in southeastern U.S.
If a central eastern U.S. was defined, it could easily contain Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, District of Columbia, Virginia, and North Carolina. The rest of the states (including eastern part of Ohio) are either northern or southern.
