My Dell computer is just over a year old and it seems to have developed a virus/trojan that effected my system32. My virus blocker thingie (it's a scientific term) deleted my system32 folder and not I have problems with crashing and freezing. I have already figured out that I need to reformat my driver.

The problem arises from the lack of a Windows system CD. My computer came with Windows XP Media Edition and no CD to back it up.. What are my options? Should I call Dell? Is there a hidden secret on my computer?

Go to Start, programs, Accesories, SystemRestore and restore your system to a prior date before you deleted the System32. Pick a date on that calendar, restore, reboot and it will be back in there.

If it is NOT, then , You have no alternitive but to Purchase those discs and then install the first 2 discs of the set that should have come with your computer in what is called System Restore and restore your computer's software to as shipped condition. Careful, you lose files and software you have since added so download those and burn onto a cd before doing that. Lets hope its not needed.

You did mean to say reformat your your hard drive? This is called a "system recovery"
I do not have the disk either. My windows XP, was already loaded on my computer, when I bought it. These instructions, will clean everything off of your hard drive, so you "must" back up anything that you want to save. I have done this three times, and I got these instructions, from a computer tech. When starting your computer, tap the F-10 key. click on next-yes-and follow the instructions, that come up on your screen. When you are finished, your computer, will look just like it did, when you first bought it. Do these steps, in order, when finished.
1. set up windows firewall
2. windows update (click express)
3. install your anti-virus program (update)
4. install anti-spyware (update)
Good Luck..
