how to grow communication skills?

As and ESL teacher I believe that the best way is to keep practicing and communicating with as many people as possible. Language, and I assume this is the topic, has no other purpose than to communicate. There are no magic tricks, no shortcuts, no formulas, only practice, practice, practice but this is probably the most difficult idea/concept for students to grasp. PRACTICE!
