I have a hp pavilion desktop a305w, i have just installed windows xp home edition. This desktop comes with the D:/ Recovery Drive that is supposed to hold only program files that you cannot delete but since i've installed windows xp, everything is being saved to the D:/ drive and im running out of space. I've tried deleting files off of the drive and it won't allow me. When i'm installing new things, it won't give me a chance to chose the drive i want. There is supposed to be recovery discs that came with the computer but i don't have them to restore it back. How can I disable the D:/ drive or change the main drive back to C:/ Pavilion. I would also like to find out how to delete unnecessary files off of that drive. We have contacted hp services and that can't seem to help us out at all.

What you should do is to reinstall windows XP, there will be a prompt asking you what partition you want to install XP onto. It will give you the option of deleting the partitions that are on the drive and creating new ones.

That is what you want to do. delete both partitions, repartition them and install windows on it. This will delete all the information on both partitions. So you will want to save everything that is important.

You are not going to want to go into the bios or anything that was mentioned above. The C: and the D: drives are both on the same hard drive, they are just seperate partitions that the computer recognizes as seperate drives.

when computer boots up before loading windows it will say press blank to run BIOS press the appropriate button then in the bios go to device manager and set the c: to primary and d: as secondary if you want this to be your master then you need to open the computer and change the jumper pins on the hard drive to master as specified on the sticker of the hard drive

go to my computer and see if its there (c:) at all.if its there see what files are in there and post back. it sounds like to me your d: drive is all you have. normally there is just enough space for a backup partition, and its only a partition of the c: drive not a whole separate drive by itself. this one is definitely going to need feed back to solve?
