im 17 years old. I dropped out of school when I was around 16, im getting my ged next month and im completely confused as to what I should do now. all my friends are getting ready to go away to college and I can barley decide what to watch on tv. I have really varied interests and I cant decide which one I could/should make a career out of. when I was in school I was in the advanced program and I had a BIG interest in physics(cosmology to be exact). I also love to play music and still have the idea of becoming a world famous rockstar lol. ever since I was little I always wanted to be an fbi agent haha. College isn't out of my field of vision but I really don't wanna be one of those people who go to college and get stuck at some desk job in corporate america miserable and wishing something had changed. I don't like the feeling of free floating, I would like to get an exact idea of what to do. if anyone has any ideas as to what I should do, or just get my mind thinking it would be much appreciated thanks soo much in advance.

I really know how you feel and i want to help..many people deal with these issues when they are young. And you are normal to think them.. The question is are you ready to do something about it? and i think yes... Its not too late... You have your entire life ahead of you.. smile you have only used 17 yrs lol you have another ummm like 70 years. that's alot of time. You dont have to make a decision right this moment.Think about it and make the right one.

Truthfully we cant decide for you Its a personal decision.. below are some questions that might help you find your answer. Use them when you are discouraged to talk yourself up..It always works for me.

Questions okay.... Are your parents successful? and think of how you can do better. All parents want their kids to be more sucessful than themselves. I want the world for mine.

What interests you the most and why? make lists with pro's and con's

try out for American Idol why not or maybe teach music make kids excited about it.. I realize you want to be famous. Realisicly ??i have to brainstorm more ideas but it makes a great hobby too. why cant you play at a club in the evenings and work your way up. give shows and show your talent. Someone might just find you.. Get yourself out there and share your music.Maybe a reastaurant will let you play . School dances.. weddings.. you wont know unless you ask.

Be so proud of who you are.. There is only one like you. And life is what you make of it.. If you think it is GREAT it will be. Make decisions you are proud of. Make them one by one. Take your time move slow. Pick your pace... There are many type of people in this world 3 types and they are:

The lookers -- they are the ones that look at what everyone else does and wishes that it was them. look and dont do anything

The dreamers --- they wish and want to do so many things. but never actually really do anything about it.they say how they will and never do.

The do'ers --- the get themselves out there and follow their dreams. they are successful happy and confident..

You want to be a doer lol... You can do it.. One step at a time. have you ever cleaned a entire room filled with toys all messed up. look at it and think OMG how where do i start? Im sure you have. and it got cleaned up too. All you can do is take baby steps now.. One at a time. You can. AND will .. This was a great step asking for advise.. I hope i have motivated you a little... If you want to talk .mail me . make your dreams come true. You deserve it. make it the best you can. you can always talk to a councler if you think it might help or to me. Im self employed and have been for 10 years. An artist and thats not always easy ttylater

hey whats wrong with the FBI agent lol to me that would be the best. always exciting and changing maybe thats the answer..

One more thing.. we all make mistakes in life..Its a part of learning and growing.. Learn from all mistakes and make them better. Follow your heart it doesnt lie.. good luck girl your gonna make it you will see. keep in touch k

Hear of a book called _Roadtrip Nation_? A couple of guys just went around to seek out people who were doing jobs they thought interesting and talked to them. Sounds like you might find it useful to do the same sort of thing. Sometimes it's hard to feel how one will fit into a career when it's nothing but a thought in your head.

In any case, you seem pretty definite about where you DON'T want to work, and I don't mean that facetiously or dismissively. Knowing what you don't want is at least as important as knowing what you do want. The question is translating that information into knowledge you can do something with. Maybe you should think about doing a little traveling to go to places where you do want to be working. Of course by "where", I'm talking work environment more than geographic region (do you want to be outdoors, on the water, in a lab...). Take a visit, find out who's working there and talk to them about their jobs.

If you do decide to go to college, I strongly consider you seek out internship or student research opportunities. Just look for things that sound cool to you and talk to the professor. If it sounds good, give it a try. Even if it doesn't work out, you'll have some tangible experience about different types of work and learn what you don't like.

First of all, find some comfort in knowing that you're not the first person who's ever felt the way you feel. We've all been there before. The first thing I would suggest is NOT doing anything NOW that's going to hinder your opportunities LATER. Don't get pregnant, don't do drugs, don't get in a bunch of debt, and so on. One big DO is to go back to school and earn your high school diploma. Not having one limits your opportunities TREMENDOUSLY!!!

You're seventeen and it sounds like you have lots of different interests and lots of different gifts and talents. Know that you don't have to pick one thing to do and stick with that the rest of your life. So rather than asking yourself what you want to do for the rest of your life, ask yourself what you would like to do "first" and begin there. If college isn't for you "right now," that's okay. There are other options. Maybe you could do an internship or volunteer in an field that you're interested in. As your explore these different areas, something will stand out as being right for you. Pursue that.

You are 17 and its not unusual not to know. I would suggest you go to a community college and take a variety of courses (experiment) you may find you want associates degrees in two -three different areas or can narrow it down to one... Or do one thing for a while and come back a few years later to study something else. You have time. BUT you dropping out of school only shows people you can't stick to a goal - a simple goal at that ---finishing high school.

Congratulations on working toward your GED. That is a smart move! You have more choices in life with an education. The first few years are general courses to improve your skills and introduce you to new ideas. I recommend you meet with an advisor in Student Services at your local community college to see what programs of study they offer. Also, make an appointment to meet with a career counselor while you are there. Both are very helpful, and their services are free!

The more you learn, the easier it will be for you to decide what you love to do. It is normal at your age to not know...it is important to be open to all the possibilities available in your life.

Best wishes.

The music scene is saturated. It is like everyone wants to do it and very few (relative to those trying) make a living out of it. I would choose your BIG interest. It is a question of interest, practicality, competition, talent, and research into your choices and your own determination. I wish I had used my head when I was 17.

First things first...

Read and learn as much as you can for as long as you can. :D That doesn't necessarily mean school or courses work. Learn every day, and you'll enjoy life.

In any case...consult with your local Employment Agencies, see if they can arrange to give you a test that will allow them to funnel you into a field you are qualified for, and would likely enjoy.
