Rudy ( 1993), have a question...plz help?

well i got this question for my careers course but i can't figure out the answer... Q) Why does rudy take a job at the steal mill? How does the incident at the plant influence his life?

His dad and brothers already work there, and they reserved a job for him.

His best friend's death encourages him to go to college and pursue his dreams.

I think he took the job because it is where his father and brother worked and it was expected that he work there. But he had a different dream. Maybe the explosion made him realize life is too short to not be doing what you want to do or that it was too dangerous?
