They mostly play bad teams in their season. When they play good teams during the season, like USC and Michigan, they lose. Their two losses this season or last did not warrant their BCS births. They have gotten blown out in the past two BCS games they were in.

Because they have a huge fan base, national coverage on NBC, and they draw a better crowd than most colleges. Whether we like it or not, the big money guys of the NCAA like this and that's why we'll continue to see ND compete for BCS bids they probably don't deserve.

Notre Dame is an amazing university on so many levels. It has this almost family type atmosphere where people are forced into contact with each other. The connection lasts forever and alumni would do anything to help each other out. The university has so much tradition as well. Notre Dame football is life there....the whole campus basically shuts down and everyone goes to the game. The reason why they have all that hype is that as well as the simple fact that they were the team to beat for so many years. The school gets so many large donations that they go out and buy some of the best coaches. At the same time, they never shy away from getting rid of anyone that isn't cutting it. They don't think long-term......winning is their only objective.

notre dame is an independant.they are not in a conference.hence the big tv contract.since they are always on tv and have wealthy alumni they are a big draw for the bcs bowls.this so-called football powerhouse has not had a big time qb in the nfl since montana.and do not hold your breath for brady quinn to stop that trend.quinn's numbers are a product of a weak schedule (army, navy, etc).whatwere his numbers against usc, michigan and lsu.not good.does anybody remember rick mirer,he was taken 2nd overall after bledsoe what did he do nothing.weis' play calling also gave quinn the big numbers against the bad teams they played.one more thing GO BLUE

They are an independent and have their own TV contract, which gives the media all the more reason to promote them. Where all the other BCS Confrences have to share their money and spotlight Notre Dame gets it all to themselves.

That is totally true and for some reason every year lately seems to start out as a Notre Dame love fest from announcers and polls... I don't understand it.

Notre Dame is a catholic school. Catholicism is the dominant religion of America which means EVERYONE is for Notre Dame. Which means more people in America watch Notre Dame b/c more people know of them. The Yankees are also like ND b/c you find yankee fans all over the US.
Ratings are what it comes down to. ND is a media-darling and everyone loves to see them win, thus they are over-rated.

they will always be overrated just because of their name, maybe if they joined a conference (the big ten) and played some quality opponents more often people would see that they arent all that they are cracked up to be......
GO BLUE!!!
