Happiness is over-rated. It's instant, fading, and entirely subjective.

Try for contentment. My mother says this comes from "Doing Your Duty." Blech. That's a load of crap. But I definitely like to go to sleep at the end of the day, content with the decisions I've made. That is a lot easier said than done. I screw up all the time.

So maybe happiness is the minute measurement of contentment, which for me is a good night's sleep.

The word happiness is often used loosely to indicate pleasures and joy arising out of events and happenings. Joy and pleasure involve a positive excitement since these are stimulus oriented, whether physical or mental.

Happiness is the calm state of mind where there is neither positive nor negative excitement. Happiness, being a state of mind without any help from a stimulus, can be sustained longer for lasting satisfaction and peace of mind. Theoretically, therefore, happiness can be created within ourselves without any external influence, events, happenings etc. However, this is possible only if we can totally insulate ourselves from the effect of our pleasant as well as painful experiences... this can be done by tuning our mind to total acceptance... either through concrete wisdom of realising how small we are,,, or through unshakable faith in the greatness and justice of God...... of course, both are easier said than done.

There is no substitution for happiness. You either have it or not, and there is no false image in the portrayal of happiness. Happiness is the gateway to peace and prosperity.
