Had a BR a year ago today and have sensation in my nipples.

Sometimes it takes at least a year for nipple sensation to come back.

I had a BR done about 6 1/2 years ago and my surgeon told me before the procedure that he would try to keep everything intact and not cut any nerves, but there was never a guarantee I wouldn't lose sensation. He said it just depended. I lost partial sensation on the left side, but nothing too serious. The right stayed the same. It also took a couple of months for sensation to completely come back. After the operation, I was pretty bruised and numb all over. If you haven't had the procedure done, discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Mine was really awesome and sensitive to my requests to keep all the "stuff" attached (milk ducts, etc). Ask him or her how many of their patients report sensation and to what degree (in both or one nipple, full/partial/none).

I think it also may depend on how much tissue you have removed. The more tissue you have removed and the longer the surgery, then more potential nerve damage. My surgery was about 5 hours, 5 lbs total removed and I still came out relatively ok.

There is an excellent article that tells you more about the lost of nipple sensation after breast surgery over at http://cosmetic-surgery.my-fashion-house.com/ . It also gives you an insight on the possible impacts on breast feeding after the breast reduction surgery.

I actually have more sensation afterwards, oddly enough. If they don't totally detach the nipple, you should still have sensation left.
