I'm currently thinking of switching back to XP for the time being so Microsoft can work out the bugs in Vista. I've heard you have to have a special Windows XP CD to do so. Where can I find one, and can I re-install Vista anytime after that?

Insert the XP CD, reboot, choose to install a fresh copy and it will display the volumes (drives or partitions) currently available to install on. Select the one Vista is installed on, and delete it. Then choose to install XP on the empty space.

When you are ready to re-install Vista, you can just repeat the process with your existing copy. The activation service should recognize the key is bound to the same hardware (assuming you don't do any major upgrades between now and then) and allow you to use the same key. If not, you can just call product support and explain that you are trying to reinstall Vista on the same machine, and they will release the key for you.

You cant switch back, because Vista is a new build and isnt "on top" of XP. Get a cheap XP home or media center disk from newegg for 100 bucks and you can re-install them until Vista is more stable.

Rex has explained the route I would go if I wanted XP back, but he forgot to mention the most important step...

Back EVERYTHING up to an external hard-drive or DVD before you start.
