tried the option in right clickng the drive i want to scan for errors then it prompts me to check it on the next startup but still it automatically cancels. tried in cmd chkdsk /f it says cannot lock drive...and the usual will scan the next startup. some of my files suddenly gets corrupted 1 by 1. pls help.

sounds like you have a virus. if you can still get into safe mode run a full scan of course after you update your definitions.If this doesn't work you will save a lot of time just booting the disk and running a repair.
