How far can anti-smoking advocacy groups go?

Question

I just watched a commercial that suggests that residue from smoking on a teddy bear is dangerous.
Here in Edmonton, it’s illegal to smoke on a patio of a restaurant or bar. THAT’S AN OUTSIDE PATIO!
I understand people’s concerns about second hand smoke and even though I think that it’s bulls***, I see their point.
My core question is “Where is this latest ad campaign going to lead?”

It's going to lead to having all our civil rights being taken away from us. We need to get a petition going in every city, every state for the government to allow us what the constitution guarantees us. The right to the pursuit of happiness. Which for some of us is smoking.

I think that the reason that people "single out smokers" is because smoking is bad for you. Smoking can kill you. I'm pretty sure you probably have a car, or ride a bus, or have used a car to get from point A to B, so isn't that a little over the top? Thats why your car has to pass an emmissions test every year... Food is good for you not hazardous... A noisy child isn't putting your health at risk, and neither is a woman with to much purfume. You used a computer to post this question, and it gives off more radiation than a cellphone or an ipod (which is hardley any)... so hell, why dont we just ban technology all together? So when it all comes down to it you can risk your OWN life, by taking in all those harmful chemicals, and filling your lungs chalk full of tar... thats all up to you. We shouldn't have to.

As a non-smoker I think smoking should be illegal. I know it's not going to be a popular thing to say... I know how you feel because I used to smoke BUT it's bad for you and it's bad for everyone around you, so it's better to stop now. All you're doing is killing yourself and making the tobacco companies rich. So, I'll support the anti-smoking groups no matter how far they go. With all we know about cigarettes the young people of today have no excuses to smoke. It's just STUPID!!!

And... I don't even want to walk through your smoke when you're huddled outside a door or on a patio. It makes my clothes smell and it gives me a headache. It's just plain disgusting.

One can only imagine where the quest for phony Purity will lead them. Wait til these same people discover that obesity costs much more than smoking! Butter can be 10.00/lb. A steak 20.00 and a bag of sugar, cookies, etc can be taxed out of sight.
It is so ignorant and hypocritical for someone to drive to that restaurant and emit more pollution into the atmosphere in that one trip than a smoker does in a whole year, but it makes people feel good and satisfies their latent fascist tendencies.

i smoke, this is legal, and this is becoming a problem all over.
the restaurants and bars in this area are contemplating this right now...
personally i refuse to go to a bar or a restaurant that refuses to accommodate me!!!
the restaurant and bar owners are upset because patrons will go elsewhere... you bet we will!!!
and it they legislate me out of the resturants and bars i will be perfectly happy having a beer and a steak on the grill in my own yard!!!

Personally, I don't care how far they take it. I don't care if they outlaw cigarettes all together. Great! Yeah, it'll suck for you guys for awhile when you have to quit. But you won't DIE. And neither will people around you.

I don't know why smokers act like they're so oppressed. You can't drive your car without wearing a seat belt. You can't ride your bike without a helmet. Why should you have the right to walk around sucking down and blowing out carcinogens?
