assuming you have XP:

Right-click the My Computer icon and choose Properties.

Click The Advanced tab, then the Settings button under Performance

Click the Advanced tab and then click the Change button under Virtual Memory. I suggest selecting System Managed Size and then click the Set button, and OK, OK, OK.

The reason for Clicking on, "No page file" first is so when you restart the computer after you finish the following steps you will have a page file that is new and free of any fragmentation.

I just did that yesterday and as the first step to making it better is thought to be just increasing the amount, it isn't.

The No Paging File needs to be selected on the first step.
After ticking the white dot next to it click Set.

Click okay on each window and then restart your computer.

If it doesn't restart, don't panic yet, start in the safe mode. Then go to the same place and click on the white dot next to custom size. Then enter the number that best suits your computers Virtual Memory Allocation in both the white boxes.

1024/1024 for example.

For instance for a computer with a 2GB's of RAM you can set the Virtual amount to 2560 in each box and everything should run smoothly at that setting.

After you have put the same numbers in the two boxes you chose, restart your computer and you should be good to operate.

If you have less available to virtual memory then you will need to figure out how much memory, less then the 2GB allowance, it will allow you to maximize computer performance.

the person below me, if u do it urself, and are knowledgeable and know how much to increase then do so. the best way just add some ram, 50 dollars worth. just help the virtual department with a big boost. doing it ur self can sometimes unblacnce the pc and not give enough to certain parts.
