Hypnosis doesn't sound like what you need. Sloppiness is a habit that you need to work through. Make yourself small goals and work up. Being neater can also become a habit, too.

Think about a few things to do each day. Write them down the night before. This will get you in the mind set for the next day. Be sure to check things off the list as they are finished. Start with small things like make the bed, put breakfast dishes in the sink, clean the bathroom mirror, take out the trash. These small tasks take only a few minutes each, but you'll get into the habit and you will see results!

Try setting a timer for 5,10, or 15, 30 (whatever you can handle) minute segments, choose a very small area, any area that needs to be picked up/cleaned, then make a conscious decision to only pick up and clean just that section during the time you allotted... do not allow yourself to get distracted... it's only for a short period of time. When the timer goes off... give yourself a small reward... computer game, chapter in a book, a quick walk with the dog... a bowl of icecream... then go back to the "mess" and repeat... set the timer... clean... BUZZ!... Reward! In no time at all, your place will be clean, it won't feel overwhelming because you are only doing a little at a time, and it won't seem like a huge effort, especially with a reward every 15-30 minutes! :)
Once you are able to get the hang of this, you can use it for anything!
Happy cleaning! :)

It's not really all that hard to get organized. It boils down to:

Discard what you don't need.
Put the rest together in a sensible place.
Designate a home for every item.
Get in routines of putting things away and cleaning, taking care of business.

If you get overwhelmed trying to deal with it all, then you have to break it down into chunks of a project, chunks of time that you can handle.

A really basic way of looking at organizing is that it is a tool for anticipating needs, planning a way to handle them before a crisis...no matter what it is. These are basic predictable steps to take to maintain your needs...and it isn't stuffy or boring...because the less time you spend doing that stuff, the MORE time you have left to ENJOY the things you WANT to do.

If you are organizing a room, you assess what you have that you need in that room, bring those items to the area, and put them in places where they are available when you need them.

If you are organizing finances, you assess the paperwork you need, bring those items to sensible places, and plan tasks to occur at a sensible time (such as paying the elec bill before your lights get shut off)

There is a very supportive community online, they have helped me a LOT in dealing with all kinds of dilemmas and successes. Register and get started.

This in addition to just asking around. Pick people's brains. Ask someone who is organized, to explain their systems to you. What did it look like before? Why did you sort them this way? How do you find these tools? How do you know where to put it? This is kind of like asking a thin person how they eat, in order to lose weight...and the same warning. Just as a fat person doesn't want to learn from an anorexic, nor does a sloppy want to learn organizing from an obsessive perfectionist.

Re: hypnosis, I have a lot of things to say...mainly comes down to you don't need to hire someone to give you subliminal suggestion to get organized.

Your hypnosis is your attitude. Nothing more. It is faith in yourself. You have defeated yourself in your question by saying you are over your head. If you think this then you ARE over your head. If you think instead..."I will use my skills of gathering information to gain skills in organizing."...well, then you will get somewhere.

Hypnosis is nothing more than a relaxed state of mind where you convince yourself of things. You can pay someone to give you suggestions of being organized (and script it out for them if that isn't their specialty), or you can do it yourself. Awake or asleep, you must believe it is possible for you, visualize it, encourage yourself to go there, and lead yourself to the goals you want to achieve.

It's a matter of if you want to live in filth or you don't...just start picking up after yourself.
