One must truly believe in oneself in order to accomplish things. You have to have determination to make that first step. To me the lyrics are about a high school graduate, leaving home, and stepping out into the world of college, breaking away from the family. This is the first step for you to accomplish your dreams, to know that it is you and only you that can make your life the way you want it to me. Don't hold back.
