all of humanity a dozen years ago?

That must have been a myth too.

HA! That is true. 15 years ago Liberals were shoving that down our throats. Now it is Global warming. Here in 10 years it will be Global Cooling again.

The hole in the ozone ended up not killing and that's why it has just been quietly swept under the rug so that everyone will forget about it. Turns out, the ozone "hole" is actually a thinning in the ozone that occurs naturally and regularly with the seasons. It's been happening for years and will go on for years to come. The same thing will happen to global warming. All the dirt on the subject will just get quietly swept under the rug.

Google it if you want to know. The whole is still there. It will continue to grow as CFC's make their way through the atmosphere. In a few years it will max out, and then take approximatly 50 years to heal itself.

Type CFC into the google explorer bar and read. You might find that all of the screeming about the hole in the ozone was warrented, and only a few hundred thousand extra people got skin cancer due to human activity instead of the millions that could have if the world hadn't acted in a decisive manner and banned the use of CFC's. Maybe they actually got one right, and this global warming thing might be something to think about also.

The problem is CFC's were fairly simple to eliminate (get rid of refridgeration equipment that used Freon). Eliminating CO2 emissions means finding new ways to power industry and infastructer. This means finding alternatives to fossil fuels, implementing expensive technology to reduce discharge of CO2 into the atmosphere, more use of public transportation. Industry has proven time after time that it won't police itself on a voluntary basis. It is our duty to force the government to mandate this change.

As was the case with the ban on CFC's industry will cry that they are being unduly burdened, citizens will cry that increasing the average mpg of a new vehicle be improved drastically, and taxing the hell out of vehichles that don't meet those requirements is UnAmerican and a violation of their freedom. In the end though it will force companies to develop new technology faster, decrease or dependance on oil, get some of the gridlock off of our roads, and save us money in the long run.

RU134A has come down in price significantly since Freon production ended in1994, industry adapted, and the air conditioning still works in our cars. CO2 emissions is a lot bigger animal but industry will adapt and life will go on. We got lucky with the ozone though, we dodged a bullet. Global warming is going to score a direct hit if we don't stop arguing about it, and start doing something about it.

Changing how we do things is tough and the answers not going to be popular with anyone including envionmentalists. It will probably be a combanation of technologies that include substantially increasing the amount of power produced by nuclear power plants. This includes building new reactors sooner rather then later. More clean coal technologies, and substantial investments into reneable energy. Half of Nevada could be turned into a large solar array..LOL. We also need to force automobile companies to improve fuel milage. Say 50mpg average within 10 years. They might cry wolf a lot, but I gaurantee they'll find a way to do it.

This is not an easy problem to solve, it won't happen overnight, but it has to start now. In 30 it would be nice to forget about global warming like we have forgotten about the ozone hole. Unfortunatly we'll still be dealing with it then even under best case scinario. America needs to wake up and realize the arguement is over it's time to act. If we don't how will we be justified when we ask other countries to do their part. I think has Bush has shown us all what a "Go it alone" mentality combined with hypocracy and deception can do for American Forigne policy issues. Shouldn't we hold ourselves to the same standards we demand of others. It's far easier to lead by example then it is by force. Doing the right thing isn't easy all the time, but it does make it easier to convince someone else to do the right thing when the rules are the same for everyone.

You surpassed over to cite the component of the object that confirms that there is a great deal of variability interior the ozone layer, Dana. "Dr Paul Fraser is from CSIRO's Marine and Atmospheric examine branch. He says jointly as scientists believe the hollow is shrinking, its length does selection from year to year. "the biggest motive force of the year-to-year variability interior the ozone hollow are stratospheric temperatures, and this grew to become into an extremely heat year interior the stratosphere," he reported. "once you have a heat stratosphere, the procedures that wreck ozone jointly with the CFCs (chloro fluoro carbon) are much less useful, and so which you finally end up with a particularly small ozone hollow. "So the year to year variability is set by utilizing the temperature ameliorations, yet they are superimposed on an prolonged-term type and we expect of it is on the final music in direction of eventual ozone restoration, yet it is going to take an prolonged time." He says the actual incontrovertible fact that CFCs (ozone depleting components) have been phased out has helped the placement." i'm no longer arguing that CFC's influence ozone concentrations. CFC's can wreck a great deal of ozone throughout the time of its lifetime. yet, there continues to be a great deal of variability in ozone for the period of the year. that there is a definite quantity of variability isn't the 1st piece of techniques that folk tend to placed up.

Mini-mind Jace, no one said that the hole in the ozone layer was going to kill all of humanity. The only myth is that all humans are capable of rational thought, as you've so amply demonstrated.

Actually the limit on floro-carbons did help. That hole in the ozone layer is healing itself.

Absolutely not. There are very strong restrictions or bans on sun-bathing in Chile, New Zealand, and Australia due to the high risk of cancer directly related to the hole in the ozone layer in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a very real threat, just as global warming is a very real threat.

scientists keep changing there mind and half the scientist say that there is no global warming other say it's global freezing other say that we have nothing to do with it all.
i don't know what to belive anymore and i hate al gore cuz he's a selfcentered man with he's head up his own but and lies like a persian rug. but the facts seem to make sense but who knows for sure it's not some crap and they'll change their mind in 10 years

Right ,and what happened to acid rain ?In the 70's they said we are heading for another ice age because we had a few rotten summers.Way back in the 50's it was the nuclear test explosions that caused the bad weather, until they decided that was crap too.Now we are being asked to fork over unimaginable amounts of money to change the weather back to rotten summers
