yes. but here are some over the counter treatments.
in december 1995 the US FDA de-regulated another powerful fungicide, butoconazole,...... Mycelex.
only 3 days of oozing gross, white, greasy stuff.
topical treatment, so no systemic effects and few, if any, side effects.
comes with 3 prefilled, disposable applicators.
at $13-15.
in response to the deregulation of butoconazole, Monistat got approval to release a stronger version of their product ("Monistat 3"),
only 3 days of oozing gross, white, greasy stuff.
comes with extra tube of cream to relieve vulvar itching.
still $15 - 20.
GOOD LUCK

A yeast infection is actually a fungal infection. It's really easy to treat with prescription antifungal meds, and, depending on the severity, maybe even just one or two doses. You can get OTC treatments but they don't always get rid of the infecting agent. I would suggest to go to the doctor because even though it can go away on it's own (very unlikely) it's quite a bit of a headache for you and it's so easy to treat. It can also worsen and cause some larger problems if left unchecked.

Yes, but they're also easily treatable with antibiotics. It can, and most likely WILL go away on it's own, however they'll probably be gone quicker with treatment.
To prevent future infections, be sure you wash good, with preferably a non irritational soap (I use two seperate soaps, one for the rest of my body, and usually Dove, or Lever 2000 for 'down there' haha). And be sure you dry it completely when you get out of the shower, and that you change underwear everyday, and preferably shower at least every 2 days. Sometimes, though there are just women who are more suseptable to yeast infections, but take all the precautions to hopefully prevent them.

Yogurt relieves recurrent yeast infections. In a study, women who daily ate five ounces of yogurt containing live bacteria lactobacillus acidophilus has two-thirds fewer cases of recurrent vaginosis as before. This is the first study to demonstrate such positive effects from yogurt containing live cultures. Theory: Bacteria present in the yogurt are believed to protect against infection either by maintaining an acidic environment in the vagina or by producing compounds such as hydrogen peroxide that kill harmful bacteria.
As to your question above: No. The infection does not go away on its own.
