I had to prove everyone wrong. Many people thought that because I'm mentally disabled, that I'd never make it through high school. I made it with Honors, I know how to drive, & I got a Bachelor's degree. My former foster mom said that my disability won't allow me to keep a job. I took a Wellness class, & I learned that many people with mental illnesses can lead successful, productive lives. I proved everyone wrong on a lot of things, & I also dealt with disability discrimination on the job & got fired when my supervisor saw my symptoms kicking in.

I don't understand why people assume that disability and incompetent are synomous. I've got disabilities as well. My parents don't support me either. Whereas my father helped my narcissistic sister get on her feet, he won't help me. It's been hard getting a career launched because I got fired or can't finish a class due to people not giving me a chance. My father is a coward who doesn't want to face his mortality. He uses driving me around to maintain his false pride. He's got the nerve to constanlyt ask if I love him. I lost love for that bully 20 years ago. He's put me down all of my life. He's judged my by disabilities for years.

People underestimate you because they're ignorant and narrow-minded. But you have proved them all wrong. Good for you, honey. And remember, nobody is perfect. Everyone will eventually need to deal with mental illness at some point of their lives, whether it be themselves or a loved one. There's still a stigma attached. I guess people don't understand that it's illness, like any other kind of illness and can effect anyone.

In one word? It's the easy way out.
What you are asking them to do is believe something that is contrary to the collective experience.
Instead of wasting time on the whys and wherefores, you could forge ahead and overcome all the obstacles placed in your path by uncaring and unsensitive individuals. Your accomplishments will be all the sweeter.

your boss is a ******* idiot for fireing you. you seem so put out there to do your best and yet you've done more than most people have. congrads on that. and people don't underestimate your abilities cause you're "mentally disabled" they're probably just like "whoa, they did that? i thought they were retarded!" and they manage to be above the class. don't let it get to you. it'll just bring you down and you don't want that.

Keep doing as well as you have been and sooner or later people will have no excuse to underestimate you. I don't see why they do NOW....you've managed to accomplish more than most people who haven't been dealt the crappy hand you have! I admire you already, and I don't even know you!

Keep going. I'm sure you've been doing great so far. If you feel like you're discriminated you can take legal action.

You don't have to prove anything to anyone. You know your abilities. Be confident in them and you will have success.

Why do you care what people think you can or can't do? Just do the best you can and forget them.
