It's not really that much of a joke. What gay guy isn't paranoid in many cases where he doesn't really need to be? That's homophobephobia. I have it. You worry that people despize you because you're gay, when in fact they don't even notice you. You end up making a self-fulfilling prophecy by assuming that straight guys will hate you. It's a very messed up thing. I don't think it's a joke. It's a sad aspect of the gay experience.
