Why isn't there white history month? Or brown history month? Or, dare I say, yellow history month? Just curious, and if you are going to yell at me for being a stupid racist, then don't even bother answering at all.

First of all, there is a hispanic history month, if that's what you meant by brown. Second, do white people really need a month dedicated to us? I mean, isn't the sad fact that everyday is kind of our day in this country?

cutie: we need a special month to focus on white accomplishments? I thought the whole point of developing women's history month and black history month was that for so long history was ALL about white men. Pretty sure they're still well represented.

Grow up and have a little respect.

We owe the celebration of Black History Month to Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Born to parents who were former slaves, he worked in the Kentucky coal mines as a child and enrolled in high school at age twenty. He graduated in two years and later went on to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard. As a student, he was disturbed to find that history books largely ignored the black American population. If blacks were mentioned at all, it was generally in ways that reflected the inferior social position they were assigned at the time.

Woodson decided to take on the challenge of writing black Americans into the nation's history. He established the 'Association for the Study of ***** Life and History' in 1915; later re-named to the 'Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History' (ASALH) . In 1916, he founded the widely respected 'Journal of ***** History'. In 1926, he launched ***** History Week to bring national attention to the contributions of black people throughout American history.

Woodson chose the second week of February for ***** History Week because it corresponded to the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, two men who greatly impacted the American black population. In 1976, the Association succeeded in expanding the observance, which then became Black History Month.

Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, American Jewish History Month, German-American Heritage Month and Polish American Heritage along with countless other "Months" exist. For some strange reason people tend to think that Black History Month is the only "Month" that exist (as proven in your question). Come on people this is like the hundredth time I've posted this.

Because we are taught about white history all throughout school, and I doubt that all of it would fit into a month.

Black History Month is a way to signify how far we (as African-Americans) have come as a people and show appreciation for the men and women who worked (and continue to work) hard for our rights as equals. Instead of questioning/challenging this month, why not embrace it? Maybe you'll learn something.

a lot has to do with the people who took their time and some who had their lives taken for the future of African Americans being respected and NOT segregated and equal to everyone else. There are months for everything, because if people fight hard enough for something they believe it righteous they could change the course of history and possibly get their own month.

Why is it that black people get the shortest month? Why do they get the month which is filled with holidays - Valentines, Lincoln's B-day, President's B-day??

I think its more like White History Year!!! I don't remember exactly which month is yellow history month but it does exist. It's called Asian American month.

There is actually Women' History month too. It's in March.

It's just wrong. Blacks can have their own groups/clubs/contests etc. Let a white group decide to have white history month. Let us start a United Honky College Fund, Miss White America, etc. OMG!!!! We would be called racist. If blacks want to be equal, then stop expecting to be treated special. Get over it. I didn't own any slaves, neither did my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. African leaders captured and SOLD THEIR OWN PEOPLE TO SLAVE DEALERS!!! Not one black today deserves special treatment from other citizens or the government. Stop being black and be an American!!!!

I've no idea. They've done nothing to deserve it. Detroit has gone section 8, the national prison population is 50% black, they corrupt children with their "black culture" and rap music, their out-of-wedlock birth rate is 70%, and they blame all of their problems on white people. People need to stop judging blacks by watching Denzel Washington on TV. I assure you, even he cries racism away from the cameras, and in some instances, on camera.

Has anyone else's city been overrun by Katrina "victims"? A year and a half later, and they're STILL not back on their feet. Yet they still have their "bling bling" and $300 sneakers, not to mention Motorola Razr cellphones. They got free room & board, lap dances, malt liquor. And whitey paid for it all. You give them an inch, they'll want two. The hijacking of America.

"Lankan blk chick" proves my point. The typical black attitude.
