When you're born you're pink,
When you grow up you're white,
When you go in the sun you turn red,
When you're sick, you're green,
When you're cold you turn blue,
And when you die you turn purple.

And you have the nerve to someone colored!!!

oh, I like your question, I gotta send it t my friends, I hope you don't mind!

I don't like the term colored!

I'm German, my spouse is from India...I spend half of my life there, but only when I came to America...one always is conscious of black, white...and all the other stupid names...

My mother-in-law, a really old lady, from the south, called people colored. I always corrected her and asked to not use that term.
I tried to tell her nicely that it wasn't appropriate, but I don't think she ever got it.
She came from a time I think when they were taught it was okay and she never really learned otherwise.
Oh or are you talking about the general thing where if you aren't causcasion, you are a "person of color"?
That's a little wierd I think, still I think it is a way for some folks to try and say "they ain't white" without saying it, or are trying to sound super respectful

It would depend on the intent. There was a time when this was an innocent expression. I really don't think the term is disrespectful - it went out of "fashion." Followed by Afro-American, African American, Black. Keeping up with racial terminology is not as important as the intent of the user.

All of the above are transitory discolorations of the usually pinkish white skin. The Colored are permanently colored, and not only on the surface but in the eyes, internal organs, ovaries, even the neurons in certain parts of the brain.

I have many friends who are African Americans. My best friend who is in her 50's informed me that it is socially proper to be referred to as people of color. If that is offensive I certainly did not want to offend. As our times change so do the names of all races. Difficult to keep up but nonetheless always respectful toward all.

well I think one of my co-workers daughter said it Best (she's African American), we're banilla. Actually we should be called beige. although some of us are lighter than others. I don't think white people are white. People that come from different parts of the globe are different shades, depending how close or far from the equator they are. Melanin is needed in skin and hair and eyes to protect skin from the sun, blue eyes and blond hair are far from the equator as they don't need as much melanin to survive, it's very simple.

Does this mean we, as white people, are uncolored? Sounds pretty bland to me!! I don't know, I think the richness of the brown skin is considered the "color", and quite frankly, is lovely. I don't know too many people anymore that use that term. And how can we be white? I don't know anyone that looks "white" unless perhaps those that are albino. This skin color question sometimes gets to be ridiculous, don't you think?

I hate the term "white". I'm European-American but there's no skin on me that's WHITE. Pink maybe. Peachy maybe. Light tan in the summer maybe. IBut no WHITE. I don't get WHITE. Some (although not the majority) really are BLACK, but not even albinos are WHITE.

I have never used the word colored but my grandmother did when she was alive and I don't think she was trying to offend anyone by saying colored.
I'm white so I should be called pasty since I look like a ghost LOL

yes, i hate that. what i hate even more is when someone says they hate when a race does something and then says something racist themselves. like all the things you said above about white people after saying you hated something white people said that can be offensive. what you said is offensive too. you are no better than people who say colored.
