I was told that it was against Texas state law to give homework the night before the TAKS...Is this true? I looked on the Texas Education Agency website & couldn't find it.

I'm in the middle of a debate on the subject with my cousins throughout the state....some have homework, some don't. All of our kids are in elementary, ranging from 3rd to 5th grade.

i am a teacher in texas, and we were told NOT to give homework. kids need a break every once and a while, eh? but...they did not say it was against the law, however i imagine my principal would not have been too happy had i chosen to ignore her request.

I don't think there is a law against it, but any teacher who thinks about it would NOT assign homework the night before the TAKS. I teach and my grandson is in the 4th grade. He has the Writing portion of the TAKS tomorrow. He had no homework tonight other than get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, wear comfortable clothes, bring water if you would like to, and only sack lunches will be allowed tomorrow.
