It just means that they are not going to pay for you shipping costs to send the book back. You will get a refund for the price of the book though.

no you WILL receive a refund... however the amount so far is unknown
because you bought the book and decided that you did not want it and returned it (becuase of the shipping cost)... Amazon is making you pay for the return shipping (becuase its not their fault you did not want the book)
the shipping will be taken from the total refund amount that you are supposed to get back.
if you want to avoid this next time look carefully at the part where it tells you the shipping cost. and if the decide that the cost is too high do not order...
try a local store for you book needs like "barns and nobel" or "borders"

It means that the amount you get for your refund will be deducted with the shipping costs for the return of the product. It means that you are paying for the shipment of the book back to amazon.

This is what the message means:
When you purchased your item from amazon, they paid shipping costs to ship the item to you.
When the item was returned, the amount you paid for that item was refunded but the shipping costs were billed to you.
This is because you returned an item that they probably offered free shipping on. When the item came back to them, they had actually spent money instead of making money so they are still charging you the amount that they paid to ship your purchase.

It means that because the book didn't have any thing that was really wrong with it (example pages missing ou of a book) but that your returning it was because you must not have liked it then the return cost will be taken out of your refund. So for example if the original refund would be say $30.00 and it would cost $2.00 to return it you would only get $28.00. If you need better explaining click on my profile and email me!

They are letting you return it, but not refunding your shipping.
How did you get $30 of shipping for a book? Do you live outside the U.S.? Or did you choose overnight shipping?
If they sent the wrong book (for instance) they'll refund the shipping, but if you had it shipped overnight but decided you didn't want it, that's not their fault, so they can't give back the shipping (because they paid someone else, like FedEx, to get it to you quickly).
Didn't you see the shipping cost when you ordered?

what they are telling you is that they will take the shipping cost out of the $30. Because they were not the reason you returned it.
