I dont think its really fair everyone thinks "MORMON!!" when they hear Utah.
I live here, and all non-mormons I know are ashamed to say they are from here because everyone categorizes them as mormon.
Why cant people look at the great things we have? Like the good skiing, and hiking?
Has Utah just gotten an irreparable reputation?

I think anyone who has been to Utah and enjoyed the diverse environment and activities will agree it is a great place. It is typically people with little experience or negative biasis who bag on Utah. I currently live in Utah (moved here from Washington about 4 years ago) and love it. It is generally very clean, there is tons to do if you like the outdoors, the economy has been great, it's a good place for raising children, etc. I work in a professional environment (with more then 1/2 not being Mormon), and everyone respects everyone, regardless of their beliefs. I think the more professional people are the more they understand the perks of Utah and the less they focus on things like there being a lot of Mormons. My wife sometimes gets annoyed that everyone asks her is she's Mormon, or assumes she is, but it passes. It doesn't help she works with a lot of immature/younger people.

Anyway, I think people just need to really visit, and play. Then they'll see.

I'm not mormon, but I love Utah. Just moved from Layton about 4 months ago and I would love to live there again someday. It really is a great place to live. I find the people there (everyone - not just the mormons) friendlier than they are here in Ohio.

I guess people just think a desert full of Mormons has nothing to offer. No offense. I'm sure the skiing is great.

Unfortunately so on the reputation. It is because of who is stereotypically there and their intolerance of others.
