As I saw on E!, he went in for liposuction and became very skinny to the point where it was going to cost thousands of dollars to not just replace his wardrobe, but the studio set as well. I didn't know it, but they actually build the sets to match the host's size. Crazy. Anyway, they cancelled his contract. And he's having a hard time finding work because he no longer fits the same 'type."

I don't know for certain, but I tend to think that Richard was fired. The current emcee, John O'Hurley was on "Dancing with the Stars" (and Seinfeld) and came in second; there was a controversy involved; I didn't watch the program, so I'm somewhat hazy on exactly what happened -- he was beaten by a soap star. Anyway, he became quite popular after his appearance on the show and was probably available for "Family Feud" which presumably wanted to make changes/updates. I'm with you, though; I miss Richard and would like to see him return...

he suffered a very agonizing painful death, due to solicited testerosis, also known as testicular cancer, i know i was shocked when i heard that also :(
