I love Pete Hautman. I haven't read everything he's written for young adults. But I have read several. They're not all like Invisible. They are different, but each is good in its own way. I loved Rash, his newest book, most of all. My second choice would be Invisible because it was such an amazing story. It really drew you in. Sweetblood is good too. I really enjoyed it.

As far as novels with protagonists that have mental illnesses...

I know exactly what you mean. I had to reread the end a couple times to make sure I had read it correctly, it came as such a shock to me. Not many books have ever brought me to tears, but this one and "Charlotte's Web" are two that never fail to, no matter how many times I reread them. I suggest you read more of Pete Hautman's works, he is a real deep author. Two others of his I really enjoyed were "Godless" and "Sweetblood."
