Franklin Pierce- 14th president of the US (1853-57) - for the sake of harmony and business prosperity, he was inclined to oppose antislavery agitation; his promotion of US territorial expansion resulted in the diplomatic controversy of the Ostend Manifesto; reorganized the diplomatic and cosular service and created the US Court of Crimes; Kansas-Nebraska Act!

Andrew Johnson- 17th president of the US (1865-69)- during Reconstruction he favoured a moderate policy og readmitting former Confederate states to the Union with few provisions for reform or civil rights for freedmen; Johnson's vetoes of legislation to establish a Freedman's Bureau and other civil rights measures angered moderate as well as Radical Republicans

Grant, Ulysses S. - US general and 18th president of the US (1869-77)- his administrative ability and innovative strategies were largerly responsible for the Union victory; foreign affairs; supported amnesty for Confederate leaders and protection for the civil rights of former slaves; increase the amount of legal tender.

Garfield James A. - 20th president (1881)- his term lasted less than 150 days - supported Radical Republican; sought a firm policy of Reconstruction in the South.

Chester Arthur - 21st president of the US (1881-85)- vetoed measures that rewarded political patronage; signed the Pendleton Civil Service Act, which created a civil-service system based on merit; transform US Navy into the one of the world's great fleets

Hope it'll help you!!!!!
