ok, so I had to go look at my car keys. Maybe this is odd, but mine only have teeth on one side for the ignition, but on both sides for the door and the trunk key.

it's just you . keys to lock boxes/safes and padlocks often have dual sided teeth.

It makes it harder to pick the lock. You can get locks with dual tumblers for buildings too, they're just more expensive.
