Or does it seem like only car keys are the only keys with teeth on both sides? Why is that?

ok, so I had to go look at my car keys. Maybe this is odd, but mine only have teeth on one side for the ignition, but on both sides for the door and the trunk key.

That is so you don't have to fumble with your key to put it in the right way. It works both ways!

it's just you . keys to lock boxes/safes and padlocks often have dual sided teeth.

It makes it harder to pick the lock. You can get locks with dual tumblers for buildings too, they're just more expensive.
