Franklin Pierce:

1. Sought to add Cuba to the United States under the terms of the Ostend Manifesto
2. Further promoted westward expansion with the addition of southern Arizona under the terms of the Gadsden Purchase
3. Attempted to quell the growing displeasure over slavery by helping the North and South resolve sectional difficulties

Andrew Johnson:

1. Sought to restore the Union through the horros of Reconstruction
2. Initially sought to punish Southern former slave holders by withholding their land but soon gave in and returned most land to the former owners
3. Sought to peacefully allow for the readmission of the seceeded states into the Union

James A. Garfield:
1. The only major goal os his administration was to reform the civil service system of handing out government jobs. In fact this move to reform government job applications led to his assassination when a disgruntled office seeker, Charles Guiteau, shot Garfield only months after he took the oath of office.

Chester A. Arthur:
1. Garfield's vice president, therefore never elected on his own, however Garfield's dreams of reformed civil service changes led to the passage of the Pendleton Act which make it much more difficult to simply get a government job thanks to who you knew.

And there you have it.

Franklin Pierce: Pierce was not liked, and did not do much. Pierce had a "sympathy" towards the Southern position on slavery. If he had a main goal it was to appease the South while trying to keep the North happy at the same time. He obviously failed terribly.
Andrew Johnson: This is a good question. Johnson was not liked by anyone. He mostly wanted to end the period of radical reconstruction.
Ulysses Grant: Grant was a popular general who became president. His main goal was to try and keep the government running in the years after the civil war.
James A. Garfield: wanted to create a civil service (which is why he was assassinated)
Chester A. Arthur: Implemented Garfields civil service (due to the tremendous outpouring of grief after Garfields death)
Grover Cleveland: Was also a supporter of civil service. Tried to end corruption.
Benjamin Harrison: He tried to fix the tariff problems (that they were too high).

Keep in mind that these answers are only rough sketches of what these presidents did. Garfield was only President for a very short time.
