I was playing with my 2 boy dwarf hamsters together and they get along together okay, but they started to fight and squeak and when I pulled them apart the younger ones teeth were chattering. Is this a bad sign? Will I ever be able to let them be around each other again? They don’t share a cage.

The whole dwarf hamsters can be around each other works sometimes IF they are from the same litter and are kept together all their lives.

Even then, littermates are known to fight/kill each other. I know, I've seen it happen too many times.

The chattering is a warning to the older hamster to stay away or else.

The fact that they aren't even kept in the same cage shows that they don't know much about each other other than the fact that every once in a while another MALE hamster comes into the others space. Defending territories are a well known thing in the animal world.

I wouldn't play with both of them at the same time again. They are bound to fight again. And next time, you might not be able to pull them apart.

I answered this same thing in a previous question you asked. Apparently you didn't like my answer that they will likely fight if you introduce them for "playtime". I realize it may be hard to accept since you want them to be friends so badly.

"It would be best not to. Introducing them for short amounts of time and then separating them over and over again can lead to some intense territorial fighting. Since they are not living together, they will view each other as rivals and intruders into one another's territory."

Please do not continue trying to this. The first fight "wasn't that bad" but it will get much worse. In your hamster's eyes, they both "won" that fight because the other hamster left. Next time they're introduced, they will fight harder because they both feel they are the dominant one and can't believe the other one has attempted to come back.

If they don't like each other,it's not safe to take the chance of another fight,so keep them separate.Although, most dwarf hamsters can have cage mates of the same gender, don't do it anyway.

Are you positive of their genders/breeds?

Are you sure they are both boys. Could be one of them is a female. I had two boy hamsters once and one of them turned up with 5 babies. I think you should keep them in seperate cages.

No, hamsters should be kept by themselves.
