You could make some fancy push and pull sticks used for the grates in a hot oven, works better than pot holders or oven mitts. Im sure these would be a good seller.
So what do you think. I think that this is the best answer.

Good luck

I've had good luck with making myself shelves before, as someone suggested. I also have done things like making holders for measuring spoons & cups [small piece of 1x1 with little hooks screwed in] and boxes. Once you get the hang of it, making even large toy boxes or such wouldn't be too hard. For the boxes you can even get light weight wood at craft stores if you aren't going to store anything heavy in it and you can get various hinges at any hardwood store. If you want something more substantial, you can purchase MDF at the hardware store. Often they will cut it for you for a small price.

Also using the lightweight wood, if you and/or your mother are good at detailed painting, you can make magnets or wall plaques.

Bird feeders the flat kind with the screen on the bottom and the little wooden edges on the four sides and a rope connected on the sides to hang it with. They are about 20 dollars at the stores and could be make quite cheaply.

wooden shelves... you can even buy raw wood planks at the hardware stores. some of them even have scrap piles where they have cut pieces off and they will give it to you. then just use a small hand saw and cut the corners off pieces that are too small to use for a shlef and use the corners as brackets for sturdiness. you can make all sizes and shapes of shelves and paint them as matching sets or custom decorate them. my mother and i did this for my stepdaughter's bedroom... it made wonderful accents. there are endless possiblities... good luck!

Oh and all the tools you would need would be a small hand saw and an electric screwdriver or drill and screws to attach the braces to the bottom.

the pole to mount a mail box can be found at Homer's hardware and the mail-box you build can be ornate by your plans and still cheap if you use good paint to preserve the wood you can get referals by word from neighbors .........
