These are the two clear-cut best DBs of the 1990s and two of the best ever. The question is who had the better career?
Woodson (1987-2003)was probably the best defensive player in the game in the early 1990s and one of the few corners to combine excellent man coverage with hard-hitting grit. He won Def POY in 1993. He was also an explosive punt and kick returner. Final stats included 71 INTs for an NFL records of 1483 yards and 12 TDs. Also 2 punt return TDs and a 2 Kickreturn TDs.
Sanders (1989-2000; 2004-5) was the most feared defensive player in the NFL in the mid 1990s. From 1995 to 1998 teams simply opted to not throw his way, effectively taking away sides of the field. He won Def POY in 1994. No corner has ever had the blazing catchup speed and fluidity. Sanders was a weak tackler.
He was a more dynamic returner than Woodson. Final numbers: 53 INTs to 1331 yards and 9 TDs. Also 6 puntreturn TDs and 2 Kickoff return TDS.
Who was the greater legend?

Overall no contest Woodson. Woodson was far better Sanders could not tackle at all his idea was to fall down in front of people and hope to God the guy trips as he jumps over sanders. Woodson probably could have done what Sanders did but didnt want the attention Sanders was always like "Look at me look at me im Prime Time" and Sanders wasnt all that good of a baseball player either for those that say Sanders is great cuz he played 2 sports big whoop Bo Jackson would have run circles around Sanders. All Sanders had going for him he was a very fast gloryhound. I am a 37 year old life long Cowboys fan also he was the WORST thing ever for the Cowboys how many players were lost to free agency for the simple fact Sanders demanded all that money and dumb.*** Jerry Jones paid him as a result they couldnt afford to keep some key players man they would have won over half of the super bowls in the 90s

I'm going Woodson. He was a sounder over all defensive player. He gave run support. He could blitz a QB like a monster. He also excelled at saftey...he just had an intrinsice understanding of where and how to move in space on a football field.
Deion was faster....and Deion was the better athlete.....Deion had the reverses at WR, and the kick returns......
But if you want to judge it by who did more to help a defense....I think it was woodson. He'd blow up sweeps at the corner. He'd kill you in space. He'd do EVERYTHING.
Deion totally took out one WR....but he gave no support in any other way.
I think Deion's only argument was what he did on special teams.

Better career? Woodson. Better stats, longer career, better tackler etc.
Greater legend? Deion hands down. This guy was a media giant and although his stats don't reflect his greatness as much as woodson's do, remember that some years he only had 1 or 2 ints and still played in the probowl. Why? Because everyone respected him and he forced teams to throw away from him so much.

Woodson!! Among other things, he wouldn't back down from tackling anyone unlike Deion who seemed like he just did enough damage without putting himself out there just in case he might get injured. I would take Woodson any day of the week over Sanders just because of work ethic.

Woodson easily. He was the complete package. Deion was a master of one aspect of his position=man-on-man. Obviously, he couldn't tackle, but most people don't realize that he was a bad zone defender. He never really grasped the concept. He is the best one-on-one cover man since Dick "Night Train" Lane and an amazing returner. Woodson had it ALL. Let's see Primetime play safety.
The main reason Deion is so well known is because of his mouth.

Primetime. #21 forever. Deion b/c he did far more on the football field. He could change games in an instant by intercepting a pass, returning a kick, or catching a game breaking reception. Also, the main reason Deion is known is b/c of those Superbowl rings and the baseball career.

Sanders
Both we're great CBs, but when it comes down to it, Deion was the better. Deion contributed on special teams as well as defense and thus, was a two-headed monster. Though Woodson was a great defender and a much better tackler then Deion, he never scared QBs or WRs like Deion did. QBs were literally afraid to throw it to the guy he was covering cuz they knew he was gonna pick them off. He truly was a "shut down" CB.

Deion. Mostly because of his mouth. Playing wise Woodson has the slight edge, but Deion got way more ink and a cooler nickname.

Deion Sanders hands down!! So fast on defense and plays both ends of the ball. Plus he can run a few punts for TDs... He also brings in money. what more do you want?
