Of course actors have a right in politics, if you mean that they can and should participate in the process.
However, they position themselves as experts and frequently use their status as celebrities to advocate political actions based on their cause celebre. Remember when Ted Danson told us all with a straight face that if we don't take drastic action to clean up the world's oceans, "we only have five years left for life on Earth" (or something apocalyptic like that). That was over 15 years ago.
Good looks and the ability to control one's facial expressions while reading a script on camera is not a reflection of the cranial capacity of an actor/actress, yet many celebrities successfully use their notoriety to advance objectively useless or at best misguided causes. Celebrities are not expert witnesses, despite the media attention they draw.
Celebrity opinions are no more or less worthless than any of the rest of the plebiscite. Quite commonly, I reflexively take the contrary position to an issue if I hear a starlet lecturing the electorate. It's always a surprise when you find true celebrity intelligence. These folks simply do not live in the same world that we do.
Famous actors and musicians have no qualms about coming out of the closet to trumpet their sexuality (be it Hetero, Homo, or Hyper), but there is one closet from which few red carpet walkers dare breach: Conservatism. The closeted conservatives in the entertainment industry are more numerous than you may believe, yet they dare not reveal their personal political leanings, for fear that such an admission end their careers and hurt their wallet.
Follow your head and keep your heart in the right place.
Follow the money.

As a citizen yes. And yea I agree with the comment about travelling to other countries.
I do thing that actors and celebrities definitely use their position.
And I understand that, as long as they aren't hijacking one venue for their own political agenda.
For instance, If you go to a concert for some group you expect to hear music.. thats what you paid for. If I turn on the academy awards ( why the hell I would I don't know but if i did ) I expect to see stuff about movies and actors... not political commentary.
Now if I tune into a talk radio show and they have a celebrity on there talking about politics.. well ok thats what it is its a talk show.
I have no problem with this.
Now whether its an appropriate venue or not they have the right to make asses out of themselves just like anyone else. And they often do.

I think everyone has a 'right' in politics. However, I think the American public has confused politics with popularity. That Martin Sheen plays a president on TV does not give him any advantage when commenting on the presidency. Actors, actresses and other celebrities who use their power with the media to influence politics do so to sway things in the direction they would like to see them go. This does not necessarily mean that direction is right or good.

Yes! They should get a proper position in the Cine field as per their fame. In case they are offered to act as a great politician, they may take it..only in the movie...In reality I personally feel most of the actors enter politics to protect their own interests and make money by showing certain magics to the ignorant ones.
For the present day, every country requires professionals to run the country and not the actors or farmers.

Everybody has a right to be involved in politics. I personally don't put any more weight on the opinion of an actor or other public figure than I do on Joe Schmoo's opinion. But everyone has the right to express their views. It just so happens that actors have a wider audience than you or I, but that's life.

Certainly--all Americans have the right to participate in the political life of our nation. I just wish more would do so more--and regardless of their politics, i admire those actors/actresses who have the patriotism to speak out and use their privileges to work for the issues they believe in.

Sure. They have the same rights as anyone else. However, I do not like to see actors, using their fame, to push their political beliefs unless they are running for office. Either be an actor or become a politician.

If you are speaking about an "actors right" then no, of course not. They have no special calling, nor training or education. Many actors show they are just as dumb as the person on the street.

They do indeed have a right, but we as Americans have a right not to watch their movies, or buy their music... Ask the Dixie Chicks. They may have won an award, but here in the real world, they can't hardly give their CDs away let alone sell tickets to their concerts. It's a price you pay when you're a star, and go around shooting your mouth off.

Yes, people in any occupation have a right to politics. We would be discriminating against actors/actresses if we were to tell them that they were not allowed to get involved in politics.
