Domestic fancy rats.

Fairly inexpensive to buy - about $5, you need a cage, bedding (no cedar or pine- causes them to have respiratory distress and failure), food, treats, water bottle and alfalfa or timothy grass. Set up maybe $50.

They are very intelligent, clean, friendly, loving and as trainable as a dog. they remember their names, but they qualify as a caged pet, so most landlords have no problems with them.

I hold a preference for female rats - males tend to have a heavy odor and spray like mal cats do. Females often smell like a spice cupboard.

Pretty easy to take care of - clean their cage every couple of days, make sure food and water are full, and get them out an play with them.

Recommended you get two - a single pet tends to be a lonely pet, and rats are social animals.

gerbils!
Gerbils are social, athletic, active, curious, bold, and extremely cute little rodents. Gerbils live in family units of two or more. They are ready to come out and play any time day or night and can take a lot of handling. They like to gnaw cardboard and dig tunnels. Gerbils enjoy people and handling and will beg to come out. If you don't have the time to play every day, that's okay too. Although people are fun, great playgrounds, and fine food dispensers, gerbils have their cagemate for company too. If your gerbils are handled too infrequently, they will become less tame. Gerbils appreciate a run outside their tank in a gerbil-proofed room at least once a week. Gerbils are easy to care for and inexpensive to house (a 10 gallon tank with cover, water bottle, and plenty of cardboard and home made toys is the perfect setup for a pair). They are practically odorless and being desert animals produce very little liquid waste. they can easily go two weeks or three between tank cleaning. Gerbils are amusing to watch and make for plenty of great photo opportunities.
they don't smell, and are great pets!

okay for you im guessing as a gal you want somthing you can interacr or play with not a smelly fish i suggest a hampster you need to clean out there cages twice a week and put in food and water every day

they also are great to play with they even cuddle

if your looking for somthing even more cuddly get a bunny but they get twice as much work cleaning the cage more oftine and its much more work.

ball python. They are very independent. You feed them every other week. cost of about $2.00 Your intitial investment could be as high as you want it. I recommend at least a 55 gallon tank. If possible get a short wide and deep tank, not narrow and tall. You are looking about $200.00 to get set up. and the snake will be anywhere from $40-$100.
