My baby is completely breast fed and has only used bottles minimally. We just started solid foods last month(which is going very well) and I'd like to start him using a sippy cup. Is it too early? If not how do I get him started using one. I'm not sure I want to start any juice yet, but I've tried putting breast milk in the cup and he seems so weirded out by it. Help.

You can give water in the cup, or really diluted juice... so it's more like flavoured water. I think this is a good time for a sippy, I started my son at 6 months, and every day I would hold the cup to his mouth and after about a week he figured out how to get a good sip out of it. He too was weirded out because it was something new. I took a few sips out of it myself so he could see, and after a couple months he could hold it all on his own.
Just something to practise with, just let him explore it and he'll catch on.

It really is not to early, I started my first son out on a sippy cup when he was only 5 months old. The Nubys are the very best cup to start with for you and baby. Your son will be very weirded out for a few weeks or even a month but every thing different will be this way to a child just like for us as adults. You can just start giving him the sippy cup a few times a day and don't force him he will get it over time. Before long all he will use is a sippy cup and you will miss giving him his bottle!!!

Best of luck!!!!!

I started all 3 of my kids on sippy cups as soon as they could hold the cup. The problem babies have with sippy cups is the liquid doesn't come out unless they really suck on it. Here's what I did - I put water in a sippy cup but took out the plunger that makes the cup spill-proof, this way the liquid comes out really easy. I'd give the cup for the baby to hold every time I fed them - they get pretty wet until they get the hang of it (which is why I filled it with water) - once they get the hang of it you can put the plunger back in. It worked for all 3 of my kids..

Definately not too early. At five months I started offering my son a sippy cup after a feeding. I just put some water in it no juice or milk. He was also breastfed, but he did really well. In fact, in a few months I found he did better with the soft straw cups by Munchkin.

Your son is probably confused because he's not used to getting food from a plastic container, lol. Juice really isn't necessary unless they aren't getting enough fruit, and its really just extra sugar anyway. My pediatrican just said to forgo it and give him water.

I don't think its too early, we gave our daughter a sippy cup at six months. We tried to help learn to use it. At first she didn't like it, so we tried plenty of different kinds of sippy cups before she found one she really liked to use. Maybe start with water in a sip cup, since your baby is used to breast milk from the breast.

7 months is not to early I started my 4 kids at 6 months you just have to give them the cup every time you feed them solids. The best cups are the ones with little handles on the side they will start to pick it up and eventually they will get it. I always started with a little watered down apple juice and when they tasted it they always associated the cup with something different than breast milk like a little treat.

Try water or juice, apple or grape. You need to start slow and don't push it on him just try it at mealtime and maybe during snack time too. Then as time goes on he will get it. He uses the cup at mealtimes, just keep trying, this is all new to him and it is not too early. How about mikk? You must be ready to stop breastfeeding by now or will be soon. so, you be the judge and be as diligent as you want you are the mom and have the job of continuing the feedings as long as you want. Good luck.

babies are smart, and this age sounds about right for the all-coveted sippy cup. try to give it to him see what he thinks (empty of course) and see if he tries to put it in his mouth (which he should, it's what babies do), shortly after add a little water. If he isn't putting in his mouth, try to do it in front of him and he should catch on. GOOD luck.

No it's not to early. Just give him water in it and let him play with it. He will figure it out in no time! (babies put their mouths on everything!) Or try a bottle and switch it up. Good luck!
